All About Laser Liposuction
When one thinks about liposuction, the first things that might come to mind are “expensive, traumatic, and very invasive.” And in the past, this was true. Traditional liposuction methods use a hollow tube called a cannula, to loosen up and suck out the fat using a suction device called the aspirator. The surgeon will insert the tube through an incision and by pushing and pulling through the fat layer, the tube breaks down the fat for it to be sucked out.
There are, however, alternatives these days, and one of them is laser liposuction. Officially known as laser assisted liposuction, the method uses the laser’s thermal and photomechanical energy to treat fat deposits in various areas of the body and the face. It is said that this method is highly effective, and less traumatic to patients.
Because lasers are so accurate and efficient, doctors are able to sculpt the body in very precise contours. This further adds to the advantages of laser assisted liposuction, because the results can be more accurate to the estimated results discussed during consultation.
Another supposed advantage of this procedure is that it actually involves very little to no blood loss, because the cannulas used in the laser process are very small, and only require tiny incisions. This means that this type of liposuction is actually an outpatient procedure, and can be finished in a short amount of time, with patients finding themselves back to normal everyday routines in a couple of days.
But what’s really amazing about laser assisted liposuction is that unlike other forms of weight loss surgery, it permanently removes fat cells. Adults actually don’t make new fat cells. When a person gains weight, the fat cells only expand in size, not created. So when the laser melts the fat cells away, the patient is permanently rid of those fat cells.
In addition to treating fat, laser assisted liposuction has another benefit; the usage of lasers produces skin tightening effects, adding to the fat loss effect by reducing the sagging and loosening of skin.
When it comes to prices, the cost is somewhat similar to traditional liposuction prices. But this not final. Many factors influence the costs of liposuction, such as the area where the treatment will be performed, the size of the area to be treated, and the amount of fat that needs to be removed.
Laser assisted liposuction is not without its critics, however. Those who are critical of laser assisted liposuction claim that, despite it being toted as less invasive, that the procedure can actually be more invasive because of the tools used. Also, that the laser can cause anywhere from mild to extreme pain, even with local anesthesia.
